  • meets the standards set by experts in hand rehabilitation
  • recertifies every five years by acquiring 2,000 hours of work experience and 80 hours of professional development

Who does a Certified Hand Therapist serve?

He or she works with people who have been injured from an accident or trauma that may result in fractures, sprains, tendonitis, arthritis, injured tendons or nerves, or amputations.

Board certified clinical specialists have built on a broad base of professional education and experience to develop greater knowledge and skills in sports physical therapy.

To become a board-certified specialist, the physical therapist must demonstrate competence in both specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency. Among the minimum requirements are documented hours of direct patient care in the chosen specialty area, no less than 10 years experience in the chosen specialty area, and successful completion of a rigorous examination administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners.
